The John D. Sperry Podcast

As an author, I want to give access to my work to as many people as I possibly can. In this episode, I introduce the purpose of the podcast and give you the prologue of my science fiction adventure novel LAMP. Following the reading of the prologue, you are invited to listen to me ramble on about why I wrote the book and what little tidbits of information you get from the prologue that will guide you through the rest of the novel.

In this episode, we take a look at Chapter 1 of LAMP, my sci-fi adventure novel that re-imagines the story of Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp. In chapter 1 we are introduced to the three primary protagonists as well as peripherally introduced to one of but not the bad guy of the story. In my commentary I address the characters, the setting, and how I came up with some of my ideas.  

In chapter 2, we meet Malik, the antagonist of the story. In my commentary of this chapter, you'll get some insight into who I wanted Malik to be as a bad guy. You'll also be treated to some of my inspiration for Laddin and how some of his character traits hit pretty close to home. 

There's always a little bit of tension when the protagonist meets his or her nemesis, and chapter 3 delivers. Laddin meets Malik for the first time and tensions are high. My commentary goes into detail about what I was going for with this relationship and how I didn't want to focus so much on the why the bad guy is the way that he is, but rather, I wanted to focus on why Laddin is the way the he is, and what that means in the context of Malik. 

We've met the characters, we've had the exposition. It's time for the conflict to meet the action! Laddin finds out what Malik thinks of his mecha and there's something about Zade. 

Laddin finds himself neck-deep in trouble as he is arrested and taken into custody by none other than the Sultan himself.

As we get more and more into Laddin's dilemma, I've decided to give my loyal listeners a treat! Today, you will get two chapters in one episode! Enjoy Chapters 5 and 6 as things really start to heat up!

Laddin in SPACE! Laddin embarks on what he considers a suicide mission to retrieve the fabled Link Access Manipulation Program. I discuss some of the minutia of this book, and I introduce "What's Good in Audio", a periodic feature where I share something I've really enjoyed listening too lately.

Laddin In Space! Part II. Laddin arrived at Pluto Station and has to get through a few obstacles before he can even get started finding the LAMP. I talk a little bit about my feelings on easy solutions to conflict, and you find out just how much I really know about all that tech jargon. 

Another Double Feature! In Chapters 9 & 10, Laddin gets himself into a bit of a pickle, he falls deeper in love with a girl her hardly knows, and we talk about where Kimber came from and why Laddin might be so into her.
